Express Philosophy

..
The Napa Valley Express softball organization is committed to providing girls 18 and under the opportunity to build self-esteem and develop teamwork skills through competitive softball. Our goal is to enhance each player's softball skills to their fullest potential by challenging each player to be the best she is willing to be. This is accomplished through instruction, coaching and teaching sportsmanship which enables the girls to become better, smarter and more competitive softball players.
..

We take this commitment very seriously and have developed the following guidelines:

..
Coaches' Code Of Ethics Parents' Code of Conduct Players' Code of Conduct

Coaches' Code Of Ethics

The function of a coach is to educate athletes through participation in athletic competition. Each athlete should be treated as though she was the coaches' own and her welfare should be uppermost at all times. Accordingly, the Napa Valley Express Board of Directors has adopted the following guidelines for coaches.

  • The coach shall be aware that she or he has a tremendous influence for either good or ill, on the education of the athlete and thus, shall never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character.
  • The coach shall uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. In all personal contact with athletes, officials, board members, parents, coaches, and the media, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.
  • The coach shall take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse.
  • The coach shall avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco products when in contact with players.
  • The coach shall promote the entire program of the Napa Valley Express organization and direct his or her program in harmony with the total ideals of the Express organization.
  • The coach shall master the rules of the ASA and shall teach them to his or her team members. The coach shall not seek an advantage by circumvention of the spirit or letter of he rules.
  • The coach shall exert his or her influence to enhance sportsmanship by spectators.
  • The coach shall respect and support the officials. The coach shall not indulge in conduct, which would incite players or spectators against the officials. Public criticism of officials and players is unethical.
