
Coaches' Code Of Ethics
The function of a coach is to educate athletes through participation in
athletic competition. Each athlete should be treated as though she was the
coaches' own and her welfare should be uppermost at all times. Accordingly,
the Napa Valley Express Board of Directors has adopted the following
guidelines for coaches.
- The coach shall be aware that she or he has a tremendous influence for
either good or ill, on the education of the athlete and thus, shall never
place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest
ideals of character.
- The coach shall uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. In all
personal contact with athletes, officials, board members, parents,
coaches, and the media, the coach shall strive to set an example of the
highest ethical and moral conduct.
- The coach shall take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol
and tobacco abuse.
- The coach shall avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco products when in
contact with players.
- The coach shall promote the entire program of the Napa Valley Express
organization and direct his or her program in harmony with the total
ideals of the Express organization.
- The coach shall master the rules of the ASA and shall teach them to
his or her team members. The coach shall not seek an advantage by
circumvention of the spirit or letter of he rules.
- The coach shall exert his or her influence to enhance sportsmanship by
spectators.
- The coach shall respect and support the officials. The coach shall not
indulge in conduct, which would incite players or spectators against the
officials. Public criticism of officials and players is unethical.

Parents' Code of Conduct
- I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support
to all players, coaches, game officials and administrators at all times.
- I will place the emotional and physical well being of all players
above my personal desire to win.
- I will support the coaches, officials and administrators working with
my child in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for
all.
- I will remember that the game is for the players, not for the adults.
- I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, officials,
administrators and fans with respect.
- I will always be positive
- I will always let the coaches coach.
- I will not get into arguments with the other teams' parents, players
or coaches.
- I will not make disparaging or unsportsmanlike remarks about/to other
players, coaches, officials, administrators and others.
- I will not come onto the field for any reason, unless directed to do
so.

Players' Code of Conduct
- I will encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches,
officials and parents at all times.
- I will remember that softball is an opportunity to learn and have fun.
- I deserve to play in an environment free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol
and expect everyone to refrain from their use at all Napa Valley Express
functions.
- I will do the best I can each day by remembering that all players have
talents and weaknesses, the same as I do.
- I will treat my coaches, other players and coaches, game officials,
other administrators, and fans with respect at all times, regardless of
race, creed, or abilities.
- I will concentrate on playing softball always giving my best effort.
- I will play by the rules at all times.
- I will control my temper at all times and resist the temptation to
retaliate.
- I will always exercise self-control.
- I will not display a poor or disruptive attitude.
- I will always remember that there is no "I" in team.
